Azu Yumiko (安須 ユミコ?), code name Accelerator, is a veteran Jet Eye affiliated with the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare’s Specialized Forces Division (SFD). She has the power to amplify her acceleration, allowing her to dash with extreme speed.
Background[]
In middle school, Yumiko had been on her school’s track team. However, because she was faster than them, the upperclassmen on the team shattered her knee using wooden swords and metal pipes. Afterwards, she was unable to walk without the use of crutches.[1]
However, in the September of 2019, she was imbued with a Third Eye, which granted her the ability to amplify her acceleration. Her legs were presumably healed as a side effect, as she regained the ability to move freely.
About a month later, Yumiko joined the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare’s Specialized Forces Division (SFD) as one of its first four members, with the other three being Ikoma Sanae, Isa Riri, and Daimon Denjirou. Taking on the code name of “Accelerator,” she formed a partnership with Sanae, code name “Shooter.” With Yumiko on the offensive and Sanae as backup, their teamwork was incredibly effective — in that first month, they managed to subdue seven Ruby Eyes.[2]
However, after a mere month of working together, their partnership was broken when Sanae suffered permanent brain damage after being caught in Igniter’s oxygen deprivation attack. [3] Since then, Yumiko has kept the comatose Sanae in their shared room. Believing that she had to prove that she was strong enough to protect herself in order to relieve Sanae’s worries, Yumiko set out with an even greater passion to hunt down the Ruby Eyes.[4]
Appearance[]
Yumiko is described to have black hair and black eyes, but is always depicted with blue hair and blue eyes in illustrations. She is usually seen wearing a black blazer and a gray pleated skirt — the uniform of the SFD-affiliated Kousai Metropolitan high school — and wears two red hairclips on either side of her head.

Abilities[]
Yumiko has the power to amplify her own acceleration. For example, when kicking off the ground in a forward dash, the acceleration created is greatly amplified, allowing her to travel at extreme speeds. Yumiko also appears to have the ability to multiply her acceleration by a negative scalar — in other words, she can also decelerate at will. This can be applied to vertical falls, such as when the descent of her falling bike was immediately slowed after leaping into the air to escape from Igniter in Volume 2.
According to Professor Riri, Yumiko only accelerates her own body under the Third Eye’s power; her clothes are only being pulled along. However, she has been shown to be able to accelerate other entities apart from her own body, most notably her cherished motorcycle. Applying her power to the bike, Yumiko can accelerate it to a top linear speed of Mach 0.7 and can even amplify its upward acceleration to create a high jump. A slightly weirder application of this ability can be found in the “Minoru-Yumiko combo”, where Yumiko accelerates Minoru while being carried by him inside his protective shell.
It is important to note that Yumiko only has the power to amplify existing acceleration. She cannot simply create acceleration out of thin air; she herself has to provide the initial burst for her power to be effective. This is best illustrated in the fight against Biter in Volume 1, where Yumiko was unable to effectively utilize her power with an injured leg. Another limitation of her ability is that she does not possess any inherent protection while accelerating — if she accidently crashes into a wall while travelling at such high speeds, she will immediately splat into a Yumiko pancake.
Detection Radius[]
Yumiko has a fairly large detection radius of approximately twenty-five meters, meaning that any Ruby Eyes within twenty-five meters would be able to detect her ability.[5]

Yumiko, as a Jet Eye, is part of the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare’s Specialized Forces Division (SFD). As one of its first four members, she has been a part of the organization ever since its founding.
