Suu Komura, code name “Refractor”, is a Jet Eye affiliated with the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare’s Specialized Forces Division (SFD). She has the power to become invisible.
Background[]
Ever since she was young, Suu has had the ability to see other people’s “sight lines”, which appear as colored beams of light. They’re not hallucinations on her own part either — even when she is not aware of another person’s existence, their sight lines are still visible.[1]
When she was in elementary school, she was unaware of what the sight lines’ various colors meant. However, once she entered middle school, something strange began to happen. Previously, the sight lines of people who looked at her were mostly tinged with yellow. Now, however, the colors had begun to change: the sight lines of women began morphing into blue, and those of men began morphing into red. Perplexed, Suu began searching for the meaning of the mysterious phenomenon.[2]
One day, she was struck by a revelation: the color of a person’s sight line signified their emotions towards her. Yellow signified love and affection, blue signified hatred, and red signified lust and desire. This thought completely terrified her. As such, Suu began to fear the sight of others. Knowing the true feelings that everyone around harbored towards her alienated her from other people. This she could handle; after all, animosity was inherent in the human heart. However, watching her mother’s sight line slowly turn from yellow to blue . . . and her father’s from yellow to red — it was more than she could take. Watching these horrifying phenomena occurring all around her, Suu was moved to the point at which she began contemplating suicide.[3]
In the September of 2019, however, an event occurred that changed the course of her life. A small black sphere, a Third Eye, descended from the sky and into her brain, giving her the power to turn invisible — to hide from the sight lines of others.
Shortly afterwards, she and her brother joined the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare’s Specialized Forces Division (SFD). Taking on the code name of “Refractor”, Suu was extremely effective. With her ability to turn invisible, she could serve as both backup and offense — in the very first month, she managed to subdue at least seven Ruby Eyes all on her own.[4]
Appearance[]
Suu is described as being extremely beautiful, with fluffy brown hair (depicted as lilac in illustrations), very pale skin, and hypnotizing violet eyes. She is also rather short, being only 150 centimeters tall.[5]
Personality[]
Because of her bad experiences with sight lines, Suu is extremely shy. In fact, she almost always stays invisible, appearing only to those she is very familiar with.
However, although she finds it hard to form relationships, she deeply values the ones she already has, shown through the way she courageously tries to sacrifice herself to allow Minoru to escape from Liquidizer’s concrete trap.
Third Eye[]
Abilities[]
Suu’s Third Eye bends light in such a way that it avoids her body and anything attached to it that would make her visible (e.g. clothes), allowing her to become completely invisible with the exception of her pupils, which appear as two floating black dots.[6]
Detection Radius[]
Suu has an extremely small detection radius of only 50 centimeters.[7] This allows her to sneak up extremely close to opponents and deal a sneak attack without them noticing her.
Affiliation[]
Suu, as a Jet Eye, is part of the Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare’s Specialized Forces Division (SFD). She is one of the more veteran members, joining shortly after Oliver Saito.
