Format[]

Our reference guidelines are unique in that the full quote must be attached to the volume citation. The format is as follows:

  1. Volume name in bold
  2. Chapter number (optional)
  3. Quotation from the volume in italics

It is preferable if the evidence is "cut" by use of ellipses (. . .) to display only the most important information. Furthermore, square brackets ([ ]) can be used to mildly alter the text to improve flow.

Examples[]

General Reference Example[]

If you wanted to add a reference for a section about Yumiko's history with Sanae, you would write the following:

<ref>'''Volume 2:''' ''“This is Sanae Ikoma. Until last month, we worked together as a team.
Her code name is ‘Shooter’ . . . Sanae and I worked together in a perfect team of a forward
and backup. In the month after the SFD was formed, we captured seven Ruby Eyes.”''</ref>

This will give:

1. Volume 2: “This is Sanae Ikoma. Until last month, we worked together as a team. Her code name is ‘Shooter’ . . . Sanae and I worked together in a perfect team of a forward and backup. In the month after the SFD was formed, we captured seven Ruby Eyes.”

As you can see, ellipses have been used to cut out the unnecessary information.

Use of Brackets[]

To illustrate the use of brackets to alter text, say that you want to include the following as a reference for Tomomi's past:

Volume 1: ". . . I was in Class Two at Hachi Middle in eighth grade.”

This results in a large amount of ambiguity — who is the pronoun "I" pointing to? Furthermore, "Hachi Middle" is abbreviated; "Hachiou Middle" is the proper name.

To fix these problems, you can use brackets to change the "I" and "Hachi Middle" to "Tomomi" and "Hachiou Middle".

Volume 1: ". . . [Tomomi] was in Class Two at [Hachiou] Middle in eighth grade.”

Please note that such text-altering can only be done to substitute vague sections on a small scale. You cannot use brackets to completely change the meaning of the sentence.

Reasoning[]

This reference format, as opposed to others where only the Volume number is written, allows for information to be checked faster and more efficiently. Only listing the volume number is equivalent to writing no reference at all.
